A healthcare power of attorney, also known as a medical power of attorney, is a legal document that allows an individual to designate someone else to make healthcare decisions on their behalf if they become incapacitated or otherwise unable to make those decisions themselves.
This document can give the designated person the power to make decisions such as consenting to or refusing medical treatment, choosing healthcare providers, and deciding whether to place the individual in a nursing home or other care facility.
